Mike Spain, Four Nations Champion

An Orwell member was representing England in the 2025 Four Nations Curling Competition played at the Preston Flower Bowl. Mike Spain played in successful rink who retained the Tom Ballantyne by beating Scotland 29-15.

Scotland claimed 3 trophies, including the newly contested Guy Dingle trophy by beating England mixed teams 20-18. Scotland ladies also retained the Connie Miller Trophy by winning 19-9 against England. Scotland were also victorious over Ireland to regain the Marshall Millenium Trophy with a final of score of 35-15.

The Four Nations is an enjoyable and social weekend tournament between the governing bodies of each of the home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales). It has evolved over the years with the first recorded games taking place in 1893 between England and Scotland. Wales became involved in 1984 and Ireland in 1996. The tournament is hosted in turn by each of the four nations towards the end of January. It will be held in Scotland next year.

The Four Nations is open to all RCCC members aged 16 and over, to play in men’s, women’s and mixed teams. Applicants must all be paid up members of Scottish Curling. Applications can be made in October through Scottish Curling
