The Channel Quaich for The Opening Bonspiel
Presented in 1997 by Sandy Braid for The Opening Bonspiel. Sandy was a local farmer at The Channel Farm, Milnathort hence the name of the trophy. In curling, Sandy was an absolute stalwart of the club, joined in 1958 & received his 50 year playing medal in 2008, past president in season 1973-74, committee member for ever & acted as our Lord’s Officer on numerous occasions at our Annual Dinner. For those not already made curlers, you will find out what that is soon? In business, Sandy was a well respected, very successful & true entrepreneur in farming circles, opening the first farm shop locally instigating the ultimate development of Loch Leven Larder as we know it today. Socially, a larger than life character, it was true that wherever you went, somebody knew Sandy! Loved the ladies, a batchelor well into his 50’s & when he did marry, was very proud of his ‘ready made family’.Inscription reads: The Channel Quaich Presented by Sandy Braid To Orwell Curling Club First winners: 1997 • W.
