Holton

Holton Trophy our main competition played as Club League

In 1946 William Black, a member of the Black family from Tillywhally who also farmed the Holton next door expressed the wish to present the club with a cup or four medals which would be played for each year as a rink competition. He was asked to suggest rules under which such competition would take place, returning to say that it be called The Holton Cup & it was agreed that this cup would be played for as a Rink League.

A summary of the conditions of play were are as follows:

• 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw & in the event of equal points, the rinks will play off.

• Members to encourage all young curlers & give all an equal chance.

• Club selection of skips to be drawn, then committee selection of possible 3rd players are then drawn & allocated in the same manner & all the names are then drawn in rotation for 2nd & 1st place until rinks are complete.

This process is still used today.
